It didn’t work. After completely removing any trace of Source Filmmaker from my machine, after completely reinstalling and starting again, it still doesn’t work.
Whenever I try to load up anything more complicated than the basic TF2 models and maps, SFM just dies and crashes without warning, or error messages. The only change made to my laptop was that I’m now running Windows 10, there’s been no hardware changes (if anything the machine’s running quicker because of the reformatting done before the upgrade). SFM worked last week, now it doesn’t.
So this means that for the foreseeable future, I’m finished. I’m out. I’m done. Unless anybody out there has any suggestions for what I could do to fix it.
It has been an experience, making these images the past year or two. It’s not something I thought I’d end up doing, but it’s been rewarding. I’ve learned a lot about how to compose images, how important lighting is, and a whole lot more about people’s fetishes than I ever thought possible.
I just want to give a big thank you to all the people who took the time to craft tutorials over on the old DigitalEro site, they really helped me get a basic grasp of the program. Also a big thank you goes to all those who made and ported models for use, from Lord Aardvark’s Mass Effect models (without which I would never have started) to Red Menace’s masterpieces (which made this genuinely fun to do), there’s been very few bad experiences with models, and I’ve been spoilt for choice.
But most importantly, I want to thank you. As of writing this, I have 3,188 followers, which holy fuck is way more than I ever thought I’d get. Thank you for following, for liking and reblogging my posts, for sending me messages, praise, requests, or hate, anonymously or not. Every time I saw that little notification on my inbox, I knew it was going to be interesting.
I’d also like to say fuck you Valve. Fuck you for making Source Filmmaker, but then leaving it in this buggy, barely working piece of shit state hiding behind the ‘beta’ label. Support the god damn software because dammit people are trying their damnedest to make it fucking work. And it defeated me this time. I’m not finished because I’m choosing to, I’m finished because Source Filmmaker is a Bethesda-level clusterfuck of bugs and issues.
I knew a few hours ago that it’s highly likely I wouldn’t be posting another image. It feels… fitting, for me personally, that my final image is of Quiet. No character in gaming has grabbed me emotionally as much as she did, and it just feels right.
So what does this mean for this blog?
I’ll still be here, my inbox is always open if anyone wants to ask questions, give feedback, or just want to chat. Of course, requests are closed! But everything will still be up and posted, just search my blog for the ‘sfm’ tag to only see images.
Enjoy.
